NEW (April 24) Material for Teachers on Differentiated Instruction, Teaching Layered Curriculum and Current Brain Research
- What Is Differentiated Instruction?
- Individual differences have intrigued and challenged educators for centuries. On the one hand, the understanding and application of this concept motivates our profession. On the other hand, practical responses to individual differences have almost entirely eluded us.
Pat Burke Guild and Stephen Garger, Marching to Different Drummers (ASCD, 1998, p. 2)
- Find out by spending some time online at http://pirate.shu.edu/~collinjo/edsites/difflearn.htm#Session1
- Read what a Canadian teacher has to say about Differentiated Learning. http://www.enhancelearning.ca/differentiating.html
- http://www.help4teachers.com/. Confused and frustrated because you have more than one type of student in your classroom? Is your school needing to differentiate instruction to ensure more students succeed? Do you feel like a circus performer juggling inclusion, diversity, learning styles, multiple intelligences and mind styles in your teaching methods! Then you can see the reasons behind the development of Layered Curriculum - the easiest solution for teachers in today's mixed ability classrooms. (Articles, lesson plans, tips, strategies, research updates)
This web-site exposes you to a completely student centered teaching method which is based upon a triangular model of three layers each requiring a higher level of understanding.
- What's in a Layer?
C Layer: Basic knowledge, understanding. The student builds on his/her current level of core information.
B Layer: Application or manipulation of the information learned in the C layer. Problem solving or other higher level thinking tasks can be placed here.
A Layer: Critical Thinking and Analysis. This layer requires the highest and most complex thought.

- NEW (May 21) CHRIS LAKE: "I highly recommend this amazing typing program for high school students who are having problems with their typing skills or who want to strengthen their skills. This program has enhanced my typing skills dramatically. The program is called EASY TYPE and you will find it on line at WWW.EASYTYPE.COM. EASY TYPE will show you, step by step, how to use the keys on the keyboard. It is progressive and starts with very simple exercises using one or two fingers and as you master techniques you will move to exercises using more fingers. It is easy to access by using your email address and a password. The program will save all of your lessons and it keeps track of how many words you type per minute. I have noticed a great change in my typing skills using this program and I recommend EASY TYPE to improve your typing skills and be productive on a computer."
